Joe Hejka - Treasurer Pro Tem

I have been a real estate investor since 1990. I joined the REIA of Oakland group in 1992. My first position out of school was as a financial analyst with MichCon . I had an interest in construction so in 1987 I got my builder’s license. I worked for another firm for a year before starting my own contracting business in 1989. My main focus was on extensive renovations of single family homes. I had a house I couldn’t sell in 1990 so I decided to rent out the property. I continued my contracting business for the next few years until I started to analyze my return for my time and effort was only marginal while the one rental property I owned had a good cash flow and was appreciating at 8-10% annually while I put in relatively little effort. In 1993, I purchased four homes. I focus on finding, rehabbing and renting single family homes. I have tried other things, but have had the most success with this strategy.
