Reasons To Cruise With REIA

Taking A Cruise Could Make You Financially Independent

by Don Beck

For the past nine years, I have been National REIA’s Cruise Chairman of our annual cruise where investors from around the country get together to enjoy an education with a vacation. From what past cruisers have told me, be prepared for lots of education and less vacation! Over 1200 real estate investors from 50+ cities have attended one or more or our cruises and most are repeaters. Why? They go home, apply the concepts learned and move ahead with their real estate goals. They then return to learn even more ideas to take home the next year.

You CAN BE ANYTHING YOU WANT TO BE IF YOU WANT IT BAD ENOUGH!

Let’s look at some of the excuses I hear each year why people can’t attend the cruise. I can’t afford to go. Let’ s face it. If you can’t afford it this year, you won’t be able to afford it next year, and the year after that, because your priorities are not on making money but chasing money to pay the bills. Robert Kiyasaki concept in his book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” explains it best when he talks about living on your passive income and not from your paycheck. He acknowledges what we already know. Real estate has proven to be the best hedge against inflation of all the markets out there.

I can’t get off from work.” With almost a year’s advance notice most people should be able to work out a vacation schedule if they really wanted to go. “If I close the next two deals I can afford to go.” Think about how much you just said about your financial position with that statement! “My spouse can’t get off from work.” No problem. We will find you another single whose spouse also could not attend. For spouses not involved in real estate but attending the cruise, we hold sessions so they can share their feelings about what s like to be married to a real estate investor.

What these excuse givers are really saying is, I’m not ready to commit to becoming financially independent. I want to stay home in my normal routine and comfort zone. I want to go and learn concepts to buy real estate but then I might try them and fail. No, s safer to stay home and make excuses why I shouldn’t attend.

If You Don't Learn How To Make Money Work For You, You Will Spend The Rest Of Your Life Working For Money

Jimmy Napier, our keynote speaker on the 2002 National REIA cruise made the above statement, and s so true. Then again, if you are a Robert Kiyosaki fan, the title could have also come from his lips.

I get the biggest joy when I hear cruise attendees tell success stories about what they gained from attending the cruise. One person told me he did not own any real estate and a year later came back on the ship owning 13 properties. His goal was to own 30 investment properties by the next cruise and then retire. Others have told me how a speaker has saved them thousands in taxes or taught a concept that fits into what they are doing that has saved them thousands of dollars. Still others share concepts that they learned from a fellow investor they met at dinner, or on a shore excursion that will be put into practice when they get home. My wife and I enjoyed watching the sun set one night in a jacuzzi on an upper deck with a couple who had just spent the last two hours writing down their goals for the coming year and were now out to relax and enjoy the scenery.

A National REIA cruise is like eating a potato chip. You can’t eat just one. Once you get one cruise under your belt you can’t wait for the next one ! It is the equivalent of a four year college degree in real estate but you graduate after a week of intense classes. Our campus is a floating city that travels the oceans to warm exotic areas of the world. Room, board, and nightly entertainment is included in the tuition.

So the choice is yours. Make another excuse why you can’t attend or take a chance on something that might change your life. If it doesn’t, so what. You took a tax deductible vacation and met 400 fellow investors.

Cruising for Wealth Through Knowledge

The 9th annual National Real Estate Investor Association cruise extravaganza was another smashing success ! 450 investors from 52 cities listened to 9 national speakers on the days at sea. The number of investors attending would have been more but the ship sold out a month before we left! A good reason to sign up early.

The combination of valuable instruction from expert investment “pros,” an abundance of sumptuous 24-hour meal service, blue skies and warm temps, professional entertainment, three interesting ports-of-call, a lively Las Vegas-style casino, and tax deductions is simply a treat that SHOULD NOT be passed up! To do all this at a discount rate and in the middle of winter blahs just added frosting to the cake.

National REIA likes to say they host the largest real estate conference on water. They invite national speakers to conduct seminars on many real estate subjects and also offer mini-classes oriented toward helping clubs with “organizational” matters, such as recruiting, publishing newsletters, organizing seminars, etc.

Of course, all classes and seminars were optional, meaning that those who preferred to sample the warm sun or go swimming, try their luck at the “slots,” play bingo, shop or participate in any of a number of other “fun” activities, were free to do so. At night, the casino was hopping and many discos did a lively business with a wide variety of music and bands. While the ship was in one of the exotic ports-of-call, passengers also had a large variety of options from snorkeling and scuba diving classes to sight-seeing, shopping (often in duty-free shops), or sampling local cuisine. For those choosing to stay on board, they were able to attend informal seminars with the “real estate gurus,” or sunbathe, work out in the health club, soak in a hot tub, or get a luxurious massage. Activities abounded for every age, gender, ambition or lack of it.

For anyone who has never “cruised” on one of these luxury liners, you have missed the ultimate travel experience if you enjoy being pampered and entertained, living, eating and playing like royalty.

So if you’d like to get away from the dreariness of midwinter, live the lifestyle of the rich while learning how to make more money, why not consider cruising with us next year?

Start saving now or set a goal to close one more deal, and plan to treat yourself to a fun week of education while on vacation! If you’ve been working hard, it’s time to reward yourself for your efforts. After all, what are you working for if not for a bit of “the good life.”

When you attend you’ll meet real estate investors from all over the country who are just getting started in their careers or who are financially independent because of real estate. Some specialize in buying and holding properties, others buy and sell, and still others lend money to investors.

If you have never been on a cruise, you’ll be amazed at all the great activities available for you and your family. Whether you like dancing, karaoke, fine art auctions, bingo, casinos, or just hanging out by the pools and jacuzzis, there’s something going on all the time. For the kids, there’ s organized activities, video games, treasure hunts, and much more. You can work out in the weight room, run/walk on the upper deck, read in the library, or get a relaxing massage in the salon. In short, there is no end of fun things for each member of the family to do.

One thing everyone remembers about a cruise is the food. World-class chefs prepare meals to your specifications or choose to dine informally pool side. Free room service and 24 hour pizza and ice cream round out the dining options.

Let’ s not forget the ports of call. Warm climates, beautiful beaches, friendly people, and as much bargain-shopping as you can handle. Plus snorkeling, fishing, diving, horseback riding, land and water tours. Watch the exotic wildlife, or get a little wild yourself at the local nightclubs.

Each year National REIA invites the top experts from all over the country to give presentations to our attendees on topics including landlording, tax savings, nothing down deals, asset protection, buying and selling mortgages, foreclosures, renovations, and dozens of other topics. Where else can you get a great vacation and a great real estate conference, all in the same place and all for the same great tax-deductible price?

Make the decision now to join fellow investors from all over the country as we spend a week having fun in the sun and learning how to get richer with real estate at the same time. Take the next step by completing the cruise flyer registration form.

Great Return on Money and Time =

National REIA Cruise

By Carl Fischer

The National REIA cruise is the best return on your money and time if you are a truly serious real estate investor. The best part is you have a lot of fun while you are learning new strategies and techniques. You have unprecedented access to national speakers and vendors from around the world.

All of the usual cruise ship activities are available, swimming, shore excursions, gambling, eating, shopping, parties, Broadway type shows, comedians, quiet time, workouts, spa activities, etc and you can do all these things while you are learning from those around you.

Casual conversations over dinner, or in the lounge, provide insights and real life solutions to some common day annoyances. It is fun to be with others of like minds and experiences. The sharing of tenant stories, dealing with banks, things that happen at investors meetings are comical as well as educational. Discussing and reviewing commercial and/or residential deals are both entertaining and enlightening. Problems and solutions are all discussed in forums with well versed and experienced investors. You meet and talk with investors from all areas of the country and realize how many things are exactly the same although they are thousands of miles apart.

The cruise is jamb packed with new ideas, approaches, techniques, and all the tools necessary to implement them. Talking with National speakers one on one over dinner, or in a lounge chair by the pool, or in the midnight buffet line seems a whole lot better than shoveling the snow at home. No meals to cook, no daily disturbances, no phone calls---listen and learn—eat, drink, and be merry while educating yourself.

You have presentations by the guru’s but better yet they host “Question and Answer” sessions that the speakers wait until every question is answered. You literally sit on a couch across from national speakers as they answer your questions in a comfortable, relaxed setting. You get all the details that are sometimes missed in other forums that feel rushed. You benefit from the intelligent questions from the experienced investors around you. You learn from others mistakes before you make them. How much is that worth?

My personal experience proved that you receive practical, and more often, better advice than from your own attorneys and accountants because you are with the legends, as well as ordinary investors, that do, and have done, the same deals you are struggling with everyday. You get answers that work.

You have seven days to work with the experienced. Subjects included : negotiating skills, rehabbing, tax strategies, foreign real estate deals, wholesale deals, entity structureing-LLC/C-corp/S-corp/Land Trust/etc, Self-directed Retirement plans, Using

OPM, Asset Protection, etc. You are with people who work hard , are smart and will really try to help you

You forge new relationships socially and professionally. I was very fortunate to have dinner with a new friend who helped me understand more about gems including tanzanite and particularly green diamonds, which I had never seen before. This was of great interest for my wife and her new found friends aboard the ship. I also never knew that-as my wealth in real estate increases --my wife’s diamonds shrink. Isn’t education great?

We are signing up for next years cruise as soon as it is available. The National REIA cruise is an opportunity that should not be missed. Don’t miss the boat on this one.

National REIA 2006 Cruise Receives High Marks Again

The 450 real estate investors attending National REIA’s Ninth Annual Cruise gave them rave reviews again - for the quality of national speakers on board and for the many opportunities to learn outside the classroom.

The Question and Answer sessions each year is a big hit. They feature 8 topics each night after

dinner in small groups. This is the perfect setting to have your questions answered as well as learn from questions being asked by others. When the session is over many head to Lido deck for an ice cream cone and a cup of coffee to further digest the information they have just learned. Attendees say this week with fellow investors from all over the country plus national speakers that stay on the ship the entire week, is the equivalent of attending their local group meetings for two years or more. If you are ready to run to first base and buy that first property or if you’re on your way to home plate of becoming a full time investor, there is something on this cruise for you.

Sign up early as the ship has sold out many weeks before sailing the last two years. Here is a short sampling of the topics offered in the Q & A sessions.
